Adriana Ruffee

RUFFEE, Adriana Atie" (van Dodeweerd) Jan. 4, 1921 Feb. 5, 2010 Atie passed away peacefully on Feb. 5, 2010 to join her beloved husband, George. Born in Amsterdam to parents Klaas and Dirkje Antonia van Dodeweerd, they moved a month later to Indonesia, living there until 1931. Atie began nursing in 1941 and had an interesting career during the Second World War. In 1945, Atie took post-graduate courses at the Midwifery School in Rotterdam. In 1947, she emigrated to Canada and continued her nursing career in Nova Scotia where she met her future husband, George Ruffee. Atie and George married in 1952. They followed George's military career, living in many parts of Canada, and also shared a love of travel. Atie was fiercely independent and was the ultimate multi-tasker and recycler. She was an avid bridge player and volunteered her time to many organizations throughout her lifetime. Predeceased by her brother-in-law George Budreski, sister Antoninette Teddy" Budreski and her husband, George, she is survived and missed by her loving daughter, Terry (Christopher), her loving son, Tony (Lanny), grandchildren Kyle, Rachael, Daina, Carly and Cameron; sister and brother-in-law Meta & Colin Mills; nephews Douglas, Brian, George, Paul, Peter and John; nieces Cathy and Allyn, as well as numerous cousins and friends in the Netherlands, Victoria, Nanaimo and California. The family expresses their gratitude to the nurses at the Palliative Care Unit at NRGH, Nora & Bob Pritchard, Sophia & Jan Terhart, Wil, Carla, Betty, Betty Ann, Thelma, Loretta and Drs. Pace, Findlay, and Winder.
