Alan Schofield Obituary

SCHOFIELD, Alan W. On Wednesday, February 20th, Alan sneaked out of Columbia House closing the door behind him so he could have breakfast with his Lord and Savior. He'd waited, patiently, in line, for more than 82 years. Waiting to join him at the table is his wife, Betty, whom he loved, unconditionally, with his whole being. There's also his beloved daughter, Margaret, who meant the world to him, her husband, Greg, and their two children, William and Christine who gave Alan so much joy, especially with their music and story telling. Alan's brother, Ray, and his wife, Norma, will join him later at the banquet. Alan has nieces and nephews in Victoria, Vancouver, Campbell River and Manchester, England. There are also relatives and dear friends on Vancouver Island, especially Don Royston. For many years, Alan was a custodian in the Greater Victoria School District where he kept hallways and classrooms spotlessly clean. Often, he shared tidbits from his lunch with less fortunate students. Alan will be lovingly remembered by all of us. Gingersnaps, anyone? A Celebration of Thanksgiving will be held on Wednesday, February 27th at one o'clock in Lake Windermere Alliance Church (Invermere) with Pastor Jared Enns officiating. Donations may be made to Eagle Bay Camp, c/o LWAC. 447152

Dear Mrs. Schofield,
I was so sorry to read of your husband's passing. I remember you often speaking of him and your daughter Margaret. Just last week I saw an old School District 61 van and Mr.Schofield immediately came into my mind and then a couple of days later I saw the newspaper. I have many fond memories of you as my grade 5 teacher (McKenzie Elem.) and the little mentions you made of your husband and daughter. You are in my thoughts and may you find comfort in your fondest memories. With sincerest sympathy.

Dear Margaret and Mrs Schofield.

My mum and I wish to express our deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. Schofield.

I will always remember him as a kind and gentle man. As a kid I remember us whizzing down Hillcrest on our bikes and Mr. Schofield was always working in the garden, mowing the lawn, or just puttering about outside on a warm summer evening. He would sometimes mention the beautiful flowers in the Colonel's garden next door. He always had a friendly smile and hello for the dozens of kids living in the neighbourhood. He was always happy and cheerfull and eager to lend a hand to us kids.
I look back on him with fond memories of a really nice man. He will be missed.

Dear Betty, Margaret and family,
I was so sorry to hear of Al's passing. He was a wonderful friend to so many people at View Royal School. There was Rose Griffiths, Jodi Westinghouse, Nancy Neily, Madeleine Key, Carol Hillyer, Lois Clackson and myself who used to call ourselves, "Al's girls' because he was so helpful to us all of the time. You can be sure that he is watching over all of his favourite people.
Love,
Linda Pearson

Margaret, I am very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing.

There are things we don't want to happen but have to accept; truths we don't want to know but have to learn; people we can't live without but have to let go...

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Sending you many hugs accross the miles....
Louise

Alan was a sweet, sweet, soul, who loved his immediate and extended family very, very much! We shared many Christmas dinners family picnics and other family experiences together. I loved to see him light up when he told stories of his childhood, working at the gas station, or talking of the past...He was a wonderful man who really made a difference in many people's lives! We will miss him!

Dear Betty, Margaret and family,

We would like you to know that we appreciated this wonderfully caring neighbor and friend so very much. Indeed, he cared for all his neighbors during all those years on Hillcrest and High Park Place. We have happy memories of this very special person. Please know we continue to remember all of you in prayer.

With our love,
Donna and Brian
