There is an error in my previous message. Should say WWII not WWI. Remembering Albert and his entertaining stories and humour.

I first met Albert in August 2013 when he was in Victoria General Hospital. He would maneuver his wheelchair around the ward to visit other patients. My dad was one of those patients. It was always a joy to see Albert as he brightened everyone's day. My dad was also a Canadian soldier during WWI in a tank in Europe, so they had lots in common. After they were discharged from hospital Dad and I would visit Albert at Selkirk and enjoy his interesting and adventurous stories over coffee & timbits. "Those sure are tasty little things" he would say.
My dad died in August 2014, a week after his 92nd birthday. I still went to visit Albert on my own, still enjoying his cheerful company, his endless supply of stories ands love of life. He was truly an amazing person.

Would like to thank the men that came to the celebration of life for Albert Harwood. My family really appreciated the stories and pictures brought to remember who he wad. Most of all that you took the time to acknowledge his service and love for caring for his community. My grandfather would of been thrilled to have so many come together to talk about his life. Please feel free to leave more stories as I will be checking the page regularly

Al was my traffic sergeant with the VCP from 64-75. He taught me how to ride a Harley MC and gave me many tips that likely saved me from serious injury. He was quite the fellow with a strange sense of humour and he will be missed by many.

Al was my boss in the Traffic Division of the Victoria Police Department in 79-80. I remember his erect posture and clipped moustache. He had a well-earned reputation for 'diligent' traffic enforcement in the City. I was amazed at his Cadillac cars. - a new one every year or two. Always red as I recall. I had no idea then that he had served in WWII with distinction. I was to learn more about that when I discovered we were neighbours 20 years later. A 15 minute dog walk turned into an hour if Al was in his yard on Livingstone Street. WW11 and PD stories aplenty, always better than the last time I heard them. A life of service to be remembered.
