Alice Kathleen Hames

HAMES, Alice Kathleen (Gibson) Died peacefully at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital following a brief illness, April 22, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Hames in 2005. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Leslie (Hames) Foster (late Neil Foster) of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and Danelle Hames (Matthew Law) of Calgary, Alberta. Adoring Nana of her five grandsons and their families, John Foster (Uyen Hoang) and their sons James and Andrew, Robert and Christina (Johnson) Foster and their son William, Michael and Shelby (Tiessen) Foster, Iain Law, and Liam Law (Kathleen Chisholm). She is also survived by her sister Muriel Gibson of Victoria, BC (formerly Belleville, Ontario) and was predeceased by her sister Anita McColm of Coburg, Ontario and Dr. James Gibson of Kingston, Ontario. She also leaves behind a niece and three nephews. Having spent her youth in Craik, Saskatchewan, and adulthood in Kingston, Ontario, she retired with Fred to Sidney BC in 1988. She graduated from KGH School of nursing in 1941 and served in the Canadian Military as a nursing sister in WWII. An avid bridge player, beautiful seamstress, creative decorator, lover of music, fabulous cook, kind friend, speedy walker and loving Nana to her five grandsons, she was a lady of style and determination to the end. Thanks to Dr. Amanda Naismith for her compassionate care of Alice for many years. A reception in her honour will be held Monday, April 26, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Peninsula at Norgarden, 2290 Henry Avenue, Sidney BC.
