Alice Horgan Obituary

HORGAN, Alice May also Mischki (nee Clutterbuck) Born in Toronto on July 13 1922, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2009. A second daughter to Joseph and Daisy Clutterbuck, and sister to Marjorie and William, all deceased. Survived by her four children, Pat (Shirley), Brian (Anne), Kathy, and John (Ellie), 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Alice moved to Vancouver Island in 1944 as part of the war effort serving at Pat Bay where she met her husband Pat Horgan. Following Pat's death in 1962, she entered the work force to raise her four children. A long time employee of the Municipality of Sannich, Alice retired in 1982 to enjoy gardening, bridge and pie making, earning her the title of Granny Pie! Active in Saanich Silver Threads, she was delighted to have been an employee at the creation of the Hampton Park facility and then go on to enjoy many hours of activities at the centre with other seniors in the community. A fisher for a time, she never caught the big one. An avid cribbage player, Alice enjoyed winning. We will miss her laughter, wisdom and advice. An independent thinker, Alice loved life, peaches, a fresh cup of tea and a good book. Not prone to sentimentality, she often reminded us of the fragility of life. At her request, no service will be held and instead she suggests you hug someone near to you. Thanks to Laurie for the quality of life Alice enjoyed at the end of her earthly time. 546861

Dear John, Ellie, Nate and Evan,

We are all so sorry to learn of your Mom's and Granny Pie's passing. She was an amazing woman and the fact that she wants hugs for everyone captures her spirit beautifully.

Hugs to all of you. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I have many fond memories of your Mom when as a child I lived on Shakespere street. We were always welcome at your house on Morley Street. It was a long time ago but some things are remembered fondly.

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.
