Allan SEQUEIRA Obituary

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Captain Allan Sequeira. Allan was born in Karachi [then British India], the eldest of five children. He grew up in Bombay and at a young age joined the Dufferin, a merchant marine training ship. From 1965 -1974 Allan was a Captain for the Scindia Steam Navigation Co. He sailed the seas, got married to Selma Pires in 1969, and immigrated to Canada in 1974. He was soon hired at BC Ferries, rising through the ranks to become Captain and then Manager, Safety and Standards. Allan was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, serving in the choir, parish council, St. Vincent de Paul, Social Concern Office, and organizing the Seniors' Lunch. Allan loved to play table tennis, golf and badminton, but most of all, he loved to cook!

Allan was predeceased by his sister Pauline, Goddaughter Lyn, and parents Gabriel and Teresa. He is survived by his wife Selma, children Dwayne (Jenny Beitel), Nerine (Nicholas Orango), and Joline, grandchildren Gabriel, Marisa, Makayo, Xavier, Danielle (Eric), Addison and Ivy, siblings Savine Lobo, Kevin Sequeira (Jacinta), and Ghislein de Cruz and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph the Worker, 753 Burnside Rd, Victoria BC at 11am on Monday, April 10th, 2023. Interment will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park on Tuesday, April 11th, 2023. Donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society.

I wish to send my condolences to Selma and family on the loss of Alan. I am one of the many local table tennis players who used to play with Alan over the years. I also traveled with Alan when he and I were active as national table tennis umpires. Although I haven´t seen him in years, I still remember his infectious laugh, and his positive attitude to life. Seeing his obituary made me think back on the times when I shared accommodation with Alan while traveling for umpiring. I did not realize it before, but I will miss him, and I am sure many others in the table tennis community will as well.

I have known Allan since 1975. Both Allan and Selma considered us family and we were always invited for family get together. He was a great cook and I shared the cooking interest and exchanged recipes often. Allan will be missed so much. He was a sincere friend and his smiling face will be missed so much. Rest In Peace my friend. You accomplished a lot in your life. May your resting place be peaceful.

To Alan and his family, he was an absolute gentleman and I remember our times spent together before and after the St. Vincent de Paul meetings. Alan had so much love caring and compassion for those marginalized families and individuals. A quote from Shakespeare's Hamlet, "Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince and a flock of angels sing thee to thy rest".

What a blessing he was to all of us.

Allan was a good man with a wonderful personality. I will never forget Allan's distinct happy smile. I regret never playing table tennis with Allan as that is my competitive sport from many years ago. My sister Barbara said he was a very good player. I know that Allan will be missed by many. My condolences to all the family. Allan Scott

Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord.
