Alma Ross Obituary
ROSS, Alma Jacqueline
June 27, 1934 - July 4, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alma Ross on July 4, 2024 at the age of 90.
Alma was born in North Bay, Ontario to Howard Brennan and Alma McLeod. She married Frank Ross in 1953. She was predeceased by her parents and stepmother Dorothy and by Frank and her siblings Euphie, Joy and Alex. She is survived by her youngest sister Nina (Bob) and her children, Alaura (Mike), Joy, Terry and Connie, her grandchildren, Cinnamon (Matt), Chad (Andrea) and Dylan and her two great-grandchildren Gunner and Stirling. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews, many of whom called her their favourite aunt.
When her boatbuilder husband found a job in Victoria's dockyard, Alma joined him, crossing Canada by train with her four children in 1964, the first of many travel adventures for her. She and Frank built a home on Glen Lake and raised their children while embracing the west coast life of golf, bridge and boating. Wanting to support her family as they grew, and always embracing new opportunities, Alma became a journeyman printer, working for the Times Colonist and Black Press. A confirmed book reader, she returned to school later in life as well, studying writing at Camosun College. Following retirement, and a move to New Westminster to live with Alaura and Mike, she fully embraced her love of travel, crossing Canada from Haida Gwaii to Newfoundland and travelling with friends and family around the world from China to the Caribbean and places in between. She was always interested in people and new experiences. Although the last few years involved a struggle with Alzheimer's, the love of her family was always present in her heart.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Metchosin Golf and Country Club, 4100 Metchosin Road, Victoria, on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
