SOLMIE, Alvin John Mattias November 05, 1939 to November 30, 2017 In loving memory Al passed away after an intense battle with illness in Nanaimo Regional Hospital. Al is predeceased by his (father) John Solmie, (mother) Mari Maki Salmi, (step-mother) May Fenton, (sister) Marilyn Larson, and son Ronald Keith Solmie. Al will be lovingly remembered by Sheila his wife of 53 years and his sister Doreen Millard. The legacy of Al will live on in the lives of his sons John (Mary) and Bruce (Michael), grandchildren Samantha, Taras, Jennifer, Sarah, Kevin (Haley), Jared, Jamie, great-grandson Preston, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Al worked 36 years for the federal government at the Pacific Biological Station. When he wasn't working Al and Sheila loved to go dancing together. They also enjoyed spending time camping, fishing, hunting, and bowling. The memories of Al will forever be in our hearts, treasured always. Celebration of life for Alvin will be held in the new year.

We will miss you so much Uncle Al. So many fun memories of times bowling, camping and just having laughs together. Thinking of you John and Bruce and sending our love. Hope you know that we are here if you need anything at all.

Dear Sheila, John and Bruce,
Our thoughts and sympathies are with you and all of your family during this sad time. May your happy memories keep you strong.
Al will be so missed by his whole family of Finns. He and Sheila were the ones that took the time to compile an invaluable family book and through their visiting, kept us all in touch with one another. Thanks Al and Sheila
