Andre Panteleyev Obituary

PANTELEYEV, Andre
Our family is heartbroken to share that our beloved husband and father, Andre (Andrejs) Panteleyev passed away peacefully after a short battle with aggressive pancreatic cancer on January 16, 2025. Our family is grateful to his wife of 57 years, a retired RN, Patricia who cared for him in his final days.
Andre was born in Riga, Latvia on April 11, 1942 to Apollons Pantelejevs and Jennie Pantelejevs (nee Kalnins). In 1945, after the second Soviet invasion of Latvia, the family fled to Germany where they lived as refugees in a displaced persons camp run by a United Nations relief agency until December 1948 when the family was fortunate to move to New Westminster.
Andre was an excellent student and received his bachelors, masters, and a PhD from the University of British Columbia in geological sciences with a specialty in gold . His academic success and summer fieldwork experiences resulted in an opportunity to join the BC Ministry of Mines & Petroleum Resources in Victoria as a Geologist and PEng, where he spent 25 years working in northwestern British Columbia. After retiring he formed his own geological consulting company, XDM Geological Consultants, where he worked internationally in Mongolia, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile and Peru. Andre retired at age 70 and thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, traveling with Pat, golfing with his retired geology buddies and becoming a very dedicated fly fisherman. He particularly enjoyed his volunteer work with the Goldstream Hatchery.
Andre's greatest joy in his life was meeting and marrying this wife, Patricia May Bolger in 1968 and raising a family together.
Andre leaves behind his daughter Karen Collins (son-in-law Jamie) and son Paul Panteleyev. He will also be sadly missed by his sister-in-law Gaylene Ward, brother-in-law Garry Bolger (Jill), niece Michelle Ward, granddaughters Cassidy and Farrah Collins and a very wide circle of lifelong friends. Andre was predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law, Don Ward.
In lieu of flowers our family would be grateful for any donations to Victoria Hospice, BC Cancer or the Goldstream Hatchery.

A celebration of life for Andre will be held on February 13, 2-4p.m. at the University Club, West Campus way, University of Victoria.

I am so sad to hear of Andre's death, and offer my sincere condolences to Patricia and the Panteleyev family at this very great loss. I met Andre in 1968, when he and my ex husband Wayne were both grad students with offices in the old army huts at UBC. He always had that twinkle in his eye, and a ready smile, finding fun and enjoyment with friends and activities he was involved with. We were very fond of Andre, in fact we even named our son Andrew (Andy) after him. Rest in Peace Andre, dear friend.

I am very sorry to hear that Andre has passed on. I knew him from UBC Grad school days. He was a well respected geologist and a mentor to many.

We wish to add our deep sadness and sincere condolences to Pat and family. André became one of my closest friends and valued colleagues over the 9 years we worked together in the BCMMPR. Too short a time. A lifetime of wonderful memories. Jack and Barbara
