Andrew Gallagher Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Andrew Gallagher on July 3rd, 2023, in Nanaimo, BC at the age of 60.
Andrew's parents, Charles and Doreen Gallagher predeceased him. Andrew is survived by his loving wife Dawn Riggs; daughter Gemma Martin, Gemma's husband Gabe, and their two boys Galen and Gaius, and his older sister Paula Gallagher.
Andrew had a great love for motorcycles and took many tours through BC and along the west coast of the USA. When he retired he enjoyed riding electric bikes with Dawn. He also enjoyed fixing up regular bikes and giving them away.. He had a deep fondness for his dogs Max, Carman, and Xavi - three Chihuahuas he loved to take for walks and hikes around the island with Dawn. Andrew had a deep admiration for sports; in particular European football, to which he has several shirts to support his teams.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses at the community Dialysis Clinic in Nanaimo for their respect and care they took with Andrew.
Andrew will be greatly missed by his friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Andrew was a good friend and we were close in our teens and early 20s. I bought his first car from him, a 1963 Ford Falcon. We cruised around Victoria a lot with that vintage craft!
He was an amazing tennis player and would bear me almost every time; so quick over those first 5 meters!
You single handed turned Victoria punk rockers into hockey fans too, managing and cheerleading one of the first hockey pools in existence... 1985 or so...
I'll miss you buddy even though just Facebook in the end... but, yeah... you were a good one through and through. See you in the other side Andrew.

Andrew had a great mind and a wicked sense of humour! If you ever asked him to give a review of a movie, his version was always better than the actual movie... he cut out the boring bits, the raunchy bits and just relayed the storyline with relish. I will miss his political rants.

I am so sorry to hear this very sad news. As a friend at work, I had always enjoyed discussions with Andrew where his dry wit usually left me in stitches. His love for soccer was infectious, and when he found my kids had discovered a passion for the beautiful game, he gave them jerseys of thier favorite players [he had never met my sons]. That act of generosity really touched me. It revealed to me that Andrew was not just another person sitting in the next cubicle, but that he was a truly engaged, thoughtful, and caring individual whos heart was much bigger than he ever let on.

I am deeply sorry to hear of his passing. It is my sincerest wish that his family is able to navigate the pain of his loss with as much ease, comfort, and support as possible.

Having lost close family members myself, I would like to share with an excerpt from one of Kahlil Gibrans poems that has helped me navigate such loss.

"For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance."

Rest easy Andrew!

My deepest condolences to Dawn, Gemma and family members. I know that Andrew enjoyed his family, his dogs and was a very hard worker. He also absolutely adored his wife. Sending everyone positive energy during this difficult time.
