Andrew MALCZEWSKI Obituary

Andrew (Andrzej) Maria Malczewski died September 2nd after spending the weekend surrounded by over 70 family members; a testament to his generosity and inclusiveness. Survived by his love, Philippa (Pippa), and nine of their children: Andrea, Christian, Maria, Tamara, Justin, Linda, Darlene, Sophie and Theodora, and predeceased by their son, Sebastian. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Krystyna, and his two nephews, and by 25 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and his loyal friends. He will be missed by many people who were influenced by his family throughout the years. He was born in Lwow, Poland, and was brought up in Edinburgh, Scotland, with Krystyna and his cousin John, by his parents Kazimierz and Barbara and his grandmother Julia, and attended Art College and University there. Andrew and Philippa moved to the west coast of Canada in 1964. He practiced as an architect and was a well-respected town planner in the lower mainland and elsewhere, including the Philippines and Hungary. His interests included drawing, boats, farms, good whisky, falconry and filming, which took him on an adventure to Kazakhstan. Andrew was a devout Catholic, who loved God and his family above all else. A funeral mass will be held at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Victoria at 2pm on Friday September 14th. A reception will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portland Hotel Society or Threshold Housing Society.

Really unfortunate that I only learned about this after 2 years. I had the honor and privilege of working with Andrew in the Philippines under the Canadian assistance program and learned a lot from him as a planner. I was in Vancouver twice but did'nt know how to reach him.

Be at peace my darling. I believe the Great Creator has a good sense of humour, and a loving and forgiving heart, so you should get along just fine. Pip
