Dear Kerry and family,
We were sad to hear that Claude had died, especially during this time of isolation. We knew Claude and Jardy, as well as you and Brian, over many years at Cadboro Bay United Church. What a special and delightful couple they were! Claude always had a twinkle in his eye and such enthusiasm. He made one feel that whatever they were saying was of great importance to him. Such a gentleman! And he had so many interesting experiences to share. He will be missed by so many who knew him!
I wanted to write to you, but don't know your address, so this is the best I can do. We send our love and sympathy.

I was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Saanich School District and had the privilege to work with Claude for many years at the Saanich School District Office. Claude was a real gentleman. honest and forthright when dealing with School Trustees and other Administrators. After his retirement, we often met at a near by coffee shop to catch up on the District news.

I was very fortunate to be hired on by Mr. Campbell in 1971 to work in the newly opened open area at Victoria West Elementary. He was instrumental in helping me obtain a job in the Victoria School District and I enjoyed working with him during my early years in Education. He always related well to students and staff and set an excellent example for others to follow. After reading his obituary it doesn't surprise me to see how full a life that he had throughout his career and "retirement". My condolences to family and friends . Gary

I was privileged to have known and been taught by Claude over forty years ago at UVIC. He was one teacher that could change lives. A few of his comments reflect his knowledge and intelligence. He was generous and thoughtful when instructing in the classroom. Here are a few words of his advice:
Use your experience as your example when in front of the class.
Ten minutes early is better than one minute late.
Seize “the teachable moment”.
Use your instructional time efficiently and give your best for your students.
(On advice to Teachers regarding overnight field trips:)
“Be careful what you say and do ... as the story will get home before you do!”
Claude was really an asset to our educational system.

I met Claude & Jardy at Cadboro Bay Church many years ago. When I retired I joined Claud's Spanish class at Goward House for several years. Claude was such a kind & patient teacher. I used to enjoy our visits at Berwick House. I will miss him.

Claude was a model of what it means to be a “teacher”, whether one was an adult or a student. We worked together at Victoria West Elementary in the early 1970’s. When struggling with a difficult first grade class, he realized my attempt to meet all children’s needs was very difficult, and when I talked to him about this issue, every morning he would come to my classroom to help me teach math. He was an example of “ practice what you preach”. Claude influenced my teaching methodology, and my thinking of what it means to be a teacher. I will be ever grateful.
