Ann Jones Obituary

JONES, Ann Roberta (nee Bowes) May 1, 1934 - October 24, 2021 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ann Roberta Jones. Ann passed away in the loving care of the 3rd fl. Staff at Sunset Lodge, Victoria after struggling for many years with the devastating effects of Alzheimer's. Ann was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Ann was predeceased by her first husband, and father of her 4 boys (Donald (Rusty) Lovelace), her second husband Robin Jones and her brothers Johnny and Buddy Bowes. Ann is survived by her loving sister Chrissy Metcalf; children Leonard, Shane, Jim and John Lovelace; grandchildren Shane, Mathew, Tanya, Christina, Teagan and Amy; great-grandchildren Livia and Jackson. Ann was born and raised in Cape Breton. In her youth she was a keen athlete (basketball, volleyball and swimming). At 18, Ann married Donald Lovelace and started her family. Tragically, Ann was widowed at a young age. She became a strong, independent, working mom raising her 4 young boys. In 1975, Ann packed up 3 of her 4 boys, in an old pizza delivery van, and drove across Canada. They settled in Mill Bay to start a new chapter in their lives. It wasn't long before Ann met Robin Jones and fell in love. Ann always wanted daughters and felt blessed when Robin's girls (Vanessa, Betty, Carol & Susan) became part of her life. Ann and Robin shared many wonderful years together with adventures at sea and living in many different communities on the Island (Maple Bay, Lasquetti Is. and Duncan). Sadly, Ann was widowed again when her loving husband Robin passed away in 2004. Ann was a passionate and talented artist (painter, sculptor, quilter and photographer). She could disappear for weeks into her art and saw everything around her as a beautiful creation. Ann had a sense for adventure that guided her journey of discovery throughout her life. Ann derived great comfort in her devotion and faith in the Lord and during her time in Duncan celebrated with the members of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Ann will be deeply missed by all those who lives are forever blessed and brightened by being loved by her. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.

I have so many special memories of Ann, my step-mother. She and Dad shared such a fun and happy life together, no matter where they were living, or if Ann was accompanying Dad on trips to the Arctic, on the Pandora, or in their devotion to Mercy Ships, sailing on the Anastasia. Dad and Dad hosted many family get togethers and she prepared some yummy dishes, my favourite were her cabbage rolls ! Ann was extremely talented artistically, and I think that my sisters and I still have paintings that she did, specifically for each of us . She also helped my daughter create the most beautiful Christmas wall hanging. One of my favourite memories is from the time they spent on Lasqueti Island, after building their own waterfront home there. I can remember swimming in the ocean with one of their kittens ! Ann loved cats and small dogs ! Sending my deepest sympathy to all who loved her . Cherish the memories, of which there are many .
