Antonio Soares Obituary

SOARES,
Antonio Mariano Frias (Tony)
May 2, 1953 - October 10, 2025
As the sun shone through the window and the Hawaiian melody of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" played, Antonio went onto Glory in such peace. In the presence of his loving wife, Heather, and daughter, Lisa, holding his hands. Son Mark and partner Meg, with precious grandson Jakob were great support and comfort, along with extended family.
Tony was born in Lomba da Maia on the island of Sao Miguel. He was always a proud Portuguese Canadian, reminding his family how beautiful the Azores islands were. Many good memories of his childhood there!
Predeceased by his Mom and Dad, Rosa and Jaime Cunha, and niece Christina. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 48 years, Heather; adored children Lisa (Menno), Mark (Meg), precious grandson Jakob; his sisters, Maria, Rosa, and Linda (Jerome); brother Jaime, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Thomas and Jacqueline; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and many extended family and friends!
Tony's friends and family were always a phone call away. Sharing fishing, sunsets, and good cribbage game stories were always a part of Tony's conversations. The love of the family's animals was front and centre in Tony's heart. 'Gracie', our dachshund, was his service dog, trained by Tony. Most important! A believer and in constant prayer for family & friends. His spirit, strength and goodness will be with us in our hearts eternally.
To know how God loved him throughout all his life. Tony shared that with all he met, especially later in life. Tony would want you to know today: God loves you!

A Graveside Service will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Dr, Victoria, BC on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 1:15pm. All are welcome! Father Dean Henderson will be officiating. A Celebration of Life to follow in the Spring of 2026!

We were not only blessed to Tony as a neighbor, but a true neighbor. A friend that would come over and give you a hand if needed. It was always a 2 way street. I am so saddened as I can still picture his infectious smile. The family lost a wonderful man, the world lost a great guy....

I was Very Blessed by God to be able to meet and got to know Tony. God knew that we were meant to meet each other. Tony and I had an instant connection and he became a Very Special friend. I will Miss his Dearly, but also know that he is with God. May he rest in Peace and will meet again in Heaven.
