Arthur (Art) was born in Hindley Green, Lancashire, England on March 12, 1912. He emigrated to Canada with his parents in 1924 at the age of 12. The family lived in Cassidy, Union Bay and Bamberton. Arthur enjoyed tennis and fly-fishing as a young man. In 1939, he returned to England and met Lily. After a whirlwind romance they were married on June 15, 1940. During World War II Arthur was employed by A.V. Roe as a machinist, manufacturing and repairing engines for the reknowned Lancaster Bomber and other aircraft of the R.B.A.F. Arthur and his family then emigrated to Canada in October 1948, residing at Bamberton, where he was employed by B.C. Cement Co. as a machinist, later becoming Personnel and Safety Director. Arthur retired in 1978 to Duncan, where he and Lily lived until his death. Arthur was a member of Malahat Lodge #107 and was the oldest living Past Master. Arthur will be sadly missed by all. Our family wishes to thank Dr. Fred Swann for his kindness over the years and to the Cowichan Hospital nursing staff.
