Audrey Whyte Obituary
An incredible wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother left us having lived some 'wonderful innings' and a long, full, caring, compassionate and generous life. Audrey was born in West Vancouver to James and Vera Luke and met and married her J. Charles (Charlie) in Victoria in 1940. They had 3 sons - Jim, Bob and Dennis. Charlie passed in 1985, Jim (Pat) in 1994 and Dennis (Barbie) in 2012. She was also pre-deceased by her older sister Joan Skipper (Bill). She accepted her losses bravely and quietly. Very strong and independent, she lived on her own until she could not drive and moved into Sidney's lovely 'Norgarden' where she was warmly cared for. "Nanny" was our 'Matriarch' and 'Mentor'- So positive and 'uplifting'. She is survived by her younger sister Angela Turner (Belton) and her middle son Bob (Suzanne); Cherished Grandchildren Jim (Amanda), Joanne (Ken), Robin (Jason), Ben (Simone), Jen (Pete) and Jason; Great grandchildren Trisha (Josh), Chris, Annika, Emilija, Sam, Boo and Gracie; and Great-Great grandchild Jayda. 6 nieces; Rhondda (Chris), Margo (Hal), Sandy (Vern), Teresa (Phil), Lois and Lorraine (Ron).
Audrey and Charlie owned and operated `Whyte`s Family Shoe Store` for 10 successful years in Campbell River from 1947-1957 then took the family on a spectacular adventure moving to Southern California (Orange) in 1957. The family moved back to Victoria and Sidney in 1964. In Sidney they started `All Bay Marina` selling it in 1979 and retiring to travels in their motor-home across Canada and the USA. They traveled Europe as well.
Audrey worked as Secretary to the CEO at Pepsi-Cola, Santa Ana, California and as a Bookkeeper at Gordon Hulme Ltd and a Secretary with the Ministry of Health Human Resources in Sidney. Her later years were spent volunteering with the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Visitors Bureau and the Sidney Museum. She had a real passion for `Bridge` and enjoyed many hours weekly playing the game with her dear and special friends. Nanny dear, you will be in our memories and loved forever. A celebration of Audrey`s life will be held in the summer of 2016.
