Barbara BARRY Obituary

Barbara Anne Barry (Crombie) passed away peacefully, in her home, at the age of 91. Growing up in Victoria, she developed a profound love for horses, dedicating much of her childhood to riding and caring for them. At the age of 18, she joined the Victoria Golf Club as a junior member, a commitment that would span an impressive 73 years. It was through golf that Barb and her husband, Jim, maintained connections with lifelong friends.
Among her varied interests, bridge held a special place in Barb's heart. She regularly played at the golf course and the social aspect of the game, combined with the intellectual stimulation, made it a perfect pastime for her.
Barb's hands were seldom idle. A lifelong knitter, she spent her later years creating hats and scarves, which she lovingly shared with family and included in gift boxes sent around the world to those less fortunate.
Barb was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Debbie Achtzner (Tim) and Donna Rosehill (Walt), and her grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Calyn, and Cara. She approached life with remarkable strength and will be remembered for her tenacity and spirit.
A private gathering will be held to honour her memory.

Barb was one of the first VGC women golfers to welcome me as a new member. She took me under her wing and we became great golfing buddies in many fun and serious tournaments around the city. Barb and her husband, Jim, myself and my husband, Ken often played golf on a Sunday and became social friends on and off the course. We shared many happy times. Barb always had a smile on her face, even when sorrow touched her life. I am not a bridge player, but knew that she was passionate about the game and the camaraderie it brought to her life. She will be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

On behalf of Georgia House, may I offer my condolences to Debbie and Donna in your time of sorrow. Your mom, who contributed much to the condo, was well liked and will be missed by all the other residents.

Played many golf games and many more bridge tables with Barb. We often shared a bottle of wine between our 4 bridge partners on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
