Bernard Mott Obituary
MOTT, Bernard Christopher Born December 28th, 1925, Winnipeg, MB Passed away August 3rd, 2007 after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his father, mother, and two brothers, Doug and Jack. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife, Phyllis, two daughters, Sandra Mott-James (Carl), and Suzanne Mott (Warren), and sister Kathleen Jolly (Bill). During World War II, Bern served overseas in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe with the Canadian Armoured Corps (Ft. Garry Horse) and the Duke of York Royal Canadian Hussars. From 1949-1959 he served as Fire Fighter and Acting Captain in the City of St. Boniface Fire Dept. He was Shop Steward and member of the F.F. Union Negotiating Committee. In addition, Bernard was active in the Credit Union serving on the Board of Directors and as president of the Norwood Credit Union. Bernard entered the Office of the Fire Commissioner, Manitoba Prov. Gov't as Assistant Fire Commissioner and in 1967 was appointed Deputy Fire Commissioner, a position he held until his retirement. He attended conferences of the Canadian Assoc. of Fire Chiefs, served on the committee of Fire Training Manuals (Red Books), and attended Fire Fighting Seminars in Memphis, Tenn. Bernard was a member of the Canadian Assoc. of Fire Marshals and Commissioners, The National Fire Protection Assoc., and acted as Sec-Treas. of the Manitoba Fire Chiefs. Bernard and Phyllis retired to Vancouver Island in 1987 where they continued their travels in Europe, Asia and Africa. Throughout his life Bernard was devoted to his family and maintained a wonderful sense of humour, and keen interest in world affairs, politics and football. Bernard always stood up for what he felt was right and raised his family to be the same way. The family would like to thank those who offered condolences, Royal Jubilee Hospital, the staff at Vancouver Island Health Authority and the Cancer Society.
