CHAN, Bill Quong Young It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Bill Quong Young Chan, who passed away peacefully on October 15, 2013 at the age of 79 years. Pre-deceased by his father Yee Sun, mother Mei Lan Eng, and his first wife Ruby Kwan Kui, mother of his children. Bill is survived by loving wife Lin (Connie) Chau and her son Carson, children Michael (Celina), Terry (Denise) and Shirley (Douglas), grandsons Brandon, Eric and Trevor, sisters Lai Lin Lau (Yiu Sang) and Koy Ying Chan (Chong Hing), and several nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Guangdong, China on June 7, 1934. He immigrated to Canada and settled in Victoria in 1951 and was a long standing active member of the Chinese Canadian Cultural Association, Hoy Sun Benevolent Association, and the Dart Coon Club (Chinese Freemasons of Victoria). Bill and Ruby owned a grocery store for ten years and he also worked for BC Ferries from 1961 until his retirement as a Chief Cook in 1995. Bill loved to spend time with friends, play mahjong, travel and ballroom dance. He had a strong work ethic and was fiercely independent- two traits that were instrumental in his battle against liver disease. Bill will be remembered for his love and support of his family and friends, his generosity, and for sharing good times over a hearty meal. Sincere thanks to the many doctors and nurses who have cared for Bill over the years, in particular, Dr. Snodgrass, Dr. Partlow and Dr. Pearson, as well as the wonderful staff at Victoria General Hospital (6 North Tower) for the special care and attention in his final days. Funeral service will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra Street at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 24, 2013 with interment to follow at the Royal Oak Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Chapter of the Canadian Liver Foundation, 109-828 West 8th Ave., Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2, or a charity of your choice.
