Brian PRICE Obituary

Brian passed away from cancer on May 13, 2024, under the compassionate care of Victoria Hospice. He was born in England, immigrated to Canada in 1972 and made countless trips to Australia, which he considered his second home, to be with family there.

Of some comfort to us are the many memories of a full life that Brian lived with a love of family and friends, travel, mountain climbing in the Rockies, skiing, hiking, cycling and playing tennis. He was an ardent supporter of the Wolverhampton Wanderers soccer team in England and anyone who knew him knew of his great enthusiasm when his team was promoted to the Premier League in 2003. He also volunteered for several years with Amnesty International and most recently with African AIDS Angels.

His career in finance was varied starting with a job as an auditor in London, England for a theatre group. After meeting his future wife in England and immigrating to Canada in 1972 he worked for a commercial real estate company in Toronto and Edmonton. This was followed by two-years in Australia where he was Finance Director of the Melbourne State Opera, adding opera to his love of different music genres. He returned to Canada with his family in 1989, settled in Victoria, BC and worked in several provincial government ministries. His retirement party was one for the books thanks to the incredible input from his co-workers and friends.

Brian touched the lives of many, young and old, with his quirky sense of humour. He will be deeply missed by his wife Norene, daughters Anna (Dave) and Sonia (Adam), adored grandchildren, his dear sister Drina Staples (Mike) and her family in Melbourne, Australia, and extended family members and friends.

Our family is grateful to all the medical specialists, nurses and staff who provided dedicated and compassionate care to Brian. And a very special thank you to the staff at Victoria Hospice who gave such exceptional care to Brian and his family.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.

We wish to send you all our love. We have such beautiful memories of our time with you after we were married and how generous you were to have us in your home with your beautiful girls and even to give up your bed to the newlyweds. It was a very precious time for us, made special by you and the many other times when you came to Australia. Our family is intertwined, our door is open and love is flowing for you all. Very much love. Kristen & Bob

Brian was best Canadian uncle any Australian could have hoped for. He was a great role model as both a father, and a person with a strong social conscience. He had a terrific sense of humour, loved his family, friends, tennis, Wolves, music and running. My family will always treasure our memories of spending time with him.

I knew Brian through our tennis group. A classic and classy English gentleman both on the court and off it. Very sad news.

I was privileged to work with Brian for several years with the BC public service, and always found him to be a thoughtful, dedicated person. He was an irreplaceable presence in the hallways and meeting rooms and was very good at his craft. More importantly, Brian was a good person.
