Bryan MEE Obituary

Born in Victoria, August 23, 1935, to Clarence and Thelma Mee. Dad is predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Curt. Dad has two sisters, Glenys and Penny and many nieces and nephews. Dad was very community minded, being part of the Esquimalt Lions, Esquimalt Neighbourhood House, Esquimalt Silver Threads writing group and Esquimalt Police board. His volunteerism earned him the Order of BC. Dad became a teacher at age 18 and for the next 37 years he taught in the Victoria School District taking time out to teach in Ghana and Jamaica with a young family in tow. He retired as a Principal at Craigflower Elementary.
Dad met the love of his life, Robin, at the Sunshine camp in Sooke, where he was a camp counsellor. He was so sure he asked her to marry him after only three weeks. They just celebrated their 65th anniversary.
Dad taught his three kids (Michele, Kerry, Dwane), a love of giving back to the community, taking us along to the CNIB and the Lion's work parties when we were young. His grandchildren fondly remember going to the cottage at Shawnigan Lake.
Dad loved writing, directing small productions of plays with a twist, working with his hands and his love of music was imbued in everything he did. His talent was extraordinary, playing the accordion and piano.
At every chance, Dad and Mom travelled the world. They regularly went to Bashford's Spa in California, on cruises and had adventures overseas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Camp Shawnigan Easter Seal camp or the Esquimalt Neighbourhood house. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

To the Mee family,

I am so sorry for your loss and the world and by world I mean Esquimalt has lost an amazing man and an amazing soul in Mr Mee.
I first met Mr Mee 51 ish years ago at George Jay Elementary he was vice principle and boy was he scary to a 5 year old, but then I got to know him a little and then he got transferred to another school or went on one of the many teaching trips. Next I ran into him while I was volunteering for Esquimalt Celebration of Lights and built up that cordial relationship again, then at a doctor office and surprise I show up at the strangest places. I saw how much volunteering meant to him and Mrs and of course he said to me "you can call me Bryan" nope I can't you will always be Mr Mee to me, even though I don't live in Esquimalt anymore it is still home to me because of the people like Mr and Mrs Mee and I will continue to volunteer wherever I am because it makes me happy inside maybe just as happy as it did Mr Mee.
Thank You for all your hard work throughout the years because looking after elementary age children can be challenging but you showed us kindness, compassion, and grace and then later in life how to give so much of yourself.
Mr Mee you will be missed so much and to your family I am truly very sorry for your loss but he did make such a dent in so many lives along his path please take comfort in that. <3

I met Brian when he joined the Esquimalt Silver Threads´ Writer´s Group, he was such a gentleman.
It was great to reconnect with Brian, when my Choir, the Goward House Singers, performed at the Selkirk Lodge earlier this year.

Bryan was a wonderful mentor for me when he was the president of the Fernwood community management board and I was the Director. He was patient, but gave direction when needed. Bryan´s passing is a great loss to our community.

I knew Robin and Bryan as a teenager in Jamaica. My parents were good friends of the Mee's in Jamaica and over the years, we lost track. I would dearly love to reconnect and have the opportunity to pay my respects when you have the celebration of life for your Dad - also remember me to your Mother Robin. My very sincere condolences, Louise Hatch (Levaque)

I had the pleasure of working with Brian when my business partner Stuart Wallace and I helped buildEsquimalt Neighbourhood House. He was not afraid to get his hands dirty or form a work party to help build the fence along the road frontage. I have many good memories of that project and of working along side Brian to make it happen. Rest in peace Brian. You deserve it !
