Bryan STOODLEY Obituary

Bryan Richard Stoodley, of Powell River, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023, in Powell River, Hospital. He was born to Richard and Ellen Stoodley in Bournemouth, England, on January 8, 1932,

At the age of 17, Bryan joined the Navy. In August 1951, he was married to Maureen Lucy Griffiths in Douglas, Isle of Man. Bryan left the Navy and worked as a bookkeeper for Manx Petroleum. In October 1952, they were blessed with their first child, Barbara, They were also blessed with a son, Nigel Richard who was born in March 1966 in Edmonton.

In 1956, Bryan left the Isle of Man and relocated to Edmonton, Alberta, where he worked for Imperial Oil. During his tenure he studied and became an Industrial Registered Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, and Chartered Accountant. Bryan's professional journey led him to executive positions with M&P Transport, Treasury Board, Heritage Trust Fund, Alberta Ministry of Health, BC Ministry of Health, and Education.

After retiring, Bryan embarked on a consulting career with the World Bank, providing his expertise in the Bahamas, Poland, and the Ukraine. Bryan and Maureen also ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing two businesses, Den of Antiquity in Edmonton and Victoria and an award winning b&b in Victoria.

The family relocated several times, moving to Ottawa in 1970, returning to Edmonton in 1972. Barbara stayed in Ottawa and married Peter Elias. Bryan and Maureen settled in Victoria in 1979. In 2009, they moved to Vancouver to be closer to both their children who had moved there with their families.

Bryan experienced the heartache of losing Maureen in May 2014, and his daughter Barbara in October 2015. In 2015, Bryan moved to Powell River where he made many friends.

Bryan leaves behind a legacy in his five grandchildren: Jack Stoodley, Allison, Jocelyn, Andrew and Sean Elias. Additionally, he had four great-grandchildren: Sebastien, Elena, Hudson and Aurora.

A small service to celebrate Bryan's life will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, June 29, 2023 at St. Phillips Anglican Church. Bryan will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Isle of Man next summer. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the BC Cancer Agency.
