C.E. Andrews Obituary

ANDREWS, C.E. "Bettie" It is with profound sadness that the family of Bettie Andrews announce her passing on January 9, 2015, in her 99th year. She was born in 1916 in The Pas, Manitoba, to Helen Melissa (Maloan) and Alexander Dallas MacArthur, was one of 7 siblings, all of whom predeceased her. The family moved to Vancouver in 1928, where Bettie completed school at Kitsilano High. She married Bob (R.W.) Andrews in Victoria in 1937 and moved to Barriere, BC where Bob worked for BC Power Corporation, and where Brian, David and Bettyanne were born. In 1953, Bob joined the fledging Trans Mountain Pipeline, where he rose through the ranks to Supervisor. This career took the family to Kamloops and the Edson, AB. Where Bettie became an active member in the art community, going on to teach art at weekly classes and summer camps. She became a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and it was then she became an avid watercolorist, and through her art made many lifelong friends. When Bob retired in 1976, they moved from Kamloops to Nanaimo, where Bettie has lived ever since. Predeceased by her son, David in 1986 and her beloved husband Bob in 1992, she is survived by her daughter, Bettyanne English (Jim) and son Brian Andrews (April), daughter-in-law Vicki Andrews, 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Bettie lived a full and active life, enjoyed beautiful music, travelled to many places she dreamed of as a young girl, became a watercolorist of remarkable talent, and mostly enjoyed the company of her family and friends. Her last years were spent at Lakeside Garden where she found a warm and comfortable home, with its wonderfully caring staff and her many friends. Her last Christmas saw her totally involved in the festivities, and she saw the New Year in good spirits, only to fall ill the next day. The journey of Bettie's life has been shared by her dear friends, and our family and now this elegant, inquisitive, well-read lady, who lived her life so beautifully, will remain in our hearts forever. Our sincere thanks to her Lakeside Garden "family" and to Palliative Care Unit at NRGH for their remarkable support during this past week. There will be a Celebration of Bettie's wonderful life at the Nanaimo Golf Club on Saturday, January 17th at 1:00 pm followed by a reception and light luncheon. In Memory of Bettie we would ask that donations be made in her name to the Vancouver Island Symphony, c/o Jae Valentine, www.vancouverislandsymphony.com To send a condolence to the family please visit www.yatesfuneral.ca YATES FUNERAL SERVICE & CREMATORIUM (1.877.264.3848) in care of arrangements.
