Cameron Johnson Obituary

JOHNSON, Cameron Shane May 4, 1969 - November 21, 2021 We are sad to share that Cam passed away suddenly from complications of lifelong diabetes. He is survived by his parents, Dennis and Stacy Johnson and sister Stephanie Johnson. Cam spent his happy childhood in Winnipeg. He enjoyed camping, canoeing, playing with his cat, riding his bike and managing his paper route. It was this job that developed his interest in exceptional customer service, and also showcased the work ethic that has followed him through his career. At 18, Cam began his career in the electrical wholesale industry, as a shipper/receiver at Nedco in Winnipeg. After spending Christmas 1992 with family in Victoria, he decided that he wanted to make Victoria his home. It took a few years, but at the age of 25 he transferred to Nedco Terrace, as Operations Manager. With Victoria life as his goal, he then worked with E.B. Horsman in Duncan, before arriving at Westburne in Victoria. For over a decade, Cam enjoyed working with and learning from his Westburne colleagues. While there, he had the opportunity to make many lasting friendships and connections in the industry. In 2008 Cam was presented with the opportunity to manage the creation and opening of the first Island branch of Torbram Electric; he thrived on this challenge. Later he moved on to Bartle & Gibson, then returned to Westburne for several years. Currently, Cam was enjoying providing quotations at Symmetry Lighting. Cam loved cooking and creating original spice combinations and recipes. He was eager to experiment with almost any ingredient. Cam always appreciated good food prepared well. Cam nurtured his friendships, maintaining contact with friends dating back to childhood. Some of his best times were spent hanging out with friends. Cam will be remembered for his positivity and sense of humour. In 2007, Cam realized a long-time dream of owning a Corvette, and shortly after, joined the Victoria Corvette Club. He made many good friends and enjoyed day trips, Saturday nights at Ogden Point, and several trips to Quad-C weekends in Kelowna. He volunteered for a number of years as club president and was actively involved in organizing and running Autocross events. In 2011 Cam gratefully received a kidney transplant from his sister Stephanie. He then began volunteering with the Kidney Foundation, becoming a board member of the Victoria branch. He was generous with his time, participating in and helping to organize a variety of fundraising and educational events, including sharing his own transplant story with potential donors and recipients. The family is so grateful, as was Cam, for the excellent medical care he received over the years. We particularly wish to thank Dr. Miller, Dr. Horgan, and the teams at the RJH Kidney Care and Transplant Clinics. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Dr, on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 2:00 pm, with a reception to follow. All are welcome. Those unable to attend in person can attend virtually via zoom. Cam would appreciate donations to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Canada or The Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC Branch. Very sorry to hear of Cams“ passing. Most of my dealings with him were through business but whenever that was we always had time for a quick conversation about other things besides electrical. Nice guy to say the least.

It was a pleasure to have known and worked with Cam for the time he was part of the Symmetry family. Whenever I called, he was on top of things and had the answers to tasks at hand. His gentle demeanor made our team embraced him instantly and I always enjoyed good car talk with him. I was looking forward to having a beer or two with him in our holiday party but instead I'll be raising a glass in his memory. Rest in peace Cam and may your memory live for years to come among your beloved family and friends!
