My mother was a fabulous woman. She gave 150% to everyone she loved, often to the point of depleting her own energy. Even through all her various treatments, she never lost the sparkle in her eyes or the gleam in her smile when someone she cared for was around. Her laughter could be heard through all four corners of the earth. In fact, her biography could easily be called, Eat, Laugh, Love. Because I always saw her giving, I often wished she'd just relax and receive for a while. I wished she would learn to love beet juice. I wished she would go for walks alone or take up new hobbies. But she found her greatest joy in time spent with her family and never veered from that. Now that she is gone, I only wish for all the simple things that I took for granted. The sound of her voice. The daily calls to see how I was. The opportunity to tell her how much I love her, learn from her and cherish her devotion to us. So for all the kids out there looking to make "improvements" on their moms, maybe they too are perfect just the way they are. And if your mom hates beet juice?
Let her. With Love, Catherine
