Carol PERRA Obituary
Carol Anne Perra (née Engelson)
April 23, 1940 – December 26, 2025
Carol Anne Perra passed away at Richmond Hospital on December 26, 2025, at the age of 85. She never fully recovered from injuries sustained in a fall earlier in October.
Carol was born in Victoria, BC, and shortly after her birth moved with her family to Prince Rupert while her father served in the Royal Canadian Navy. She later returned to Victoria, where she fondly remembered childhood days at Crescent Beach with her dog, Snicklefritz. After a particularly cold winter, the family settled on Linden Avenue, a place Carol always remembered as home. She graduated from Victoria High School and later completed a brief period of nursing training at St. Joseph's Hospital.
In the early 1960s, Carol worked at Spirit River Hospital, where she and a friend saved enough money to travel to Europe in 1963. It was in Spirit River that she met her future husband, Leonel (Leo) Perra. They married in 1965 and became the proud parents of two sons, Michael and Chris.
Carol was a devoted wife and mother, supporting her family through moves to Edmonton, Williams Lake, Kamloops, Castlegar, and eventually the Lower Mainland. Her life was grounded in family, home, and steady presence, and she was deeply loved by those who knew her.
Carol was predeceased by her father, Captain Robert Donald Engelson of the CCGS Estevan; her mother, Marguerite (née Nelson) Ruppel; and her uncles, Doug and Don Nelson. She is survived by her husband, Leonel, and her sons, Michael and Chris.
A memorial service is planned for the spring of 2026 in Victoria. Donations in Carol's memory may be made to Union Gospel Mission, Vancouver, BC.
The family extends sincere thanks to the medical staff and caregivers at Richmond Hospital for their care and compassion.
