Carol Winterbottom Obituary

With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife and grandmother, Carol Winterbottom (nee Kirkendale), on November 28, 2025.
She is survived by her loving husband Philip of 59 years and her children Shelley (Harper), Jenny and Graham; her beloved grandchildren Myles, Breanna, Eli, Frances, Thomas and Jude; her sisters Val (Thornber), Sue (Sherman), cousin John Kirkendale, sister in law Rona, and cousins in Wales.

Carol was born and raised in Oak Bay and was a strong women with a tremendous love for nature and her family. Her father was a captain with Seaspan Tugs and she spent her summers in Cordova Bay on the water boating and touring the Gulf Islands.
Through these years she developed a deep love for the ocean which she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Later in life, her love for the coast and its history drew her and Phil northward where they discovered Savary Island and established new summer memories at their summer cabin for her family and grandchildren. She also loved spending time with friends at an annual trip to Yellow Point Lodge where she won the darts tournament on two occasions.

Carol attended the University of Victoria, where she obtained her teachers degree and taught elementary school in Port Alberni before dedicating herself to her family. While raising her children she did further graduate studies and remained a proud alumni of UVic.

In these past eight weeks, Carol fought bravely against an autoimmune condition and the family thanks the care and support she received from Dr. Ng, Dr. Yee and the entire team of Doctors and nurses at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care Ward.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Canadian Blood Services.

A service will be held on January 25th, 1-4pm at the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club.

Carol was my mom Sylvia's longest and cherished friend. They spent summers growing up together in Cordova Bay and later in life kayaking & hiking the west coast at Yellow Point.
May her memory be a blessing. From the Trenholme Family
