Carole MACDONALD Obituary

Surrounded by love, Carole passed away quietly and peacefully at home with her sister beside her. She was born to Ella Elizabeth and Harry Sinclair Jones and had a happy childhood growing up with brother, Garth and sister, Patti. Carole attended Oak Bay High and Victoria College then went on to UBC, the Universities of Toronto and Wayne State, earning a MA in Speech Pathology and Audiology.

Following graduation she worked in Thunder Bay, but the lure of the West Coast - the ocean, nature, and weather - drew her home. She joined the Communication Team at UBC and the Diagnostic Centre of the Vancouver Children's Hospital. Children and their families travelled to the Centre from all over the province for help with speech and hearing difficulties. Carole was kind, caring and patient with a special warmth that was the hallmark of her personality. Thoughtful and creative, she tried to include parents and siblings in each child's care and support. Her colleagues at the Centre became lifelong friends.

Throughout her life, Carole played tennis and badminton so it was only fitting that she would meet her husband John at the Jericho Tennis Club. Their life of many adventures included paddling their canoe from Jericho to Granville Island, skiing, travels, Yellowpoint Lodge and Galiano Island holidays, cheering on the BC Lions and Canucks, and building and renovating their home. Music and the Symphonies brought them both much pleasure. In recent years, Carole took piano lessons. She was a diligent learner and had few qualms about performing at recitals with young fellow students.

Carole and John warmly welcomed family and friends to their Vancouver garden back yard fire pit to enjoy just being together over a glass of home-made wine. Returning to the family home on the Island, they made new neighbourhood friends as well as those at Glen Meadows Tennis Club. They had fun together with gardening, building projects, dinners out, and times at the beach. Carole and John celebrated each day with a pre-dinner glass of bubbly while enjoying nature's sights and sounds.

Carole was a lovely person. She approached life with a positive attitude, quiet confidence, and an enthusiastic demeanour. The sparkle in her eye matched the sparkle in her bright smile. We will miss her kindness, humour, and grace. She touched everyone she met. We are thankful to have been part of her life.

Carole was predeceased by John and her brother, Garth. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Patricia, sisters-in-law Isobel MacDonald and Marianne Jones, nieces Megan (Bart) Mooibroek and Janet (Guy) Jones-Hatif, nephews Scott (Jane) and Ron Jones, and her great nieces and nephews.

Over the years, neighbours were fun, kind, helpful and supportive friends. Our thanks to Luxcare and the Community Care nurses who helped Carole stay at home. To David, Wendy and Zaf - thank you for being there.

Carole was a quiet supporter of many institutions. If you wish, please donate in her memory to the Victoria Symphony or a charity of your choice. The family will celebrate Carole's life at a later date.

My husband and I were long term (over 10 years) tenants in Carole and John´s custom built home on W 11th Avenue in Point Grey. They were both the kindest and most generous humans the world could ask for. I will never forget the initial home tour before we rented. It consisted of a glass of their wine in hand, while John insisted we step inside the master bedroom ensuite shower, not running, but to reassure we could see the view of downtown.

I will forever be grateful for all the years Carole and John allowed us to be in their home.

RIP Carole. May your family find comfort and peace in knowing how many people your kindness touched.

What a wonderful, kind, caring woman. She was a great neighbour at Retreat Cove Farm. We will miss her as will so many others.

Condolences. Carole was a lovely woman. She was a very helpful speech Pathology supervisor. More recently a group of us retired SLPs would meet for an enjoyable lunch every six months or so. She will be missed.

Saddened to hear of Carole's passing. We have wonderful memories of Carole and John and their cocktail parties at Yellowpoint. We will toast them this August with the YP oldtimers!
