Clive WRIGHT Obituary

On January 14, 2026 Clive Wright died peacefully in hospital in Victoria. He was 79. Born in the UK in 1946 and working for Roland Sims Racing Shells of Nottingham, Clive immigrated to Canada at the age of 19. He became well-known here as a boat builder, both with his sailboat company CK Wright Marine, and later with his wooden recreational rowing shells. In 2024, Clive received Rowing Canada Aviron's Long Service Award in recognition of 55 years in rowing. Choral singing, piano playing, and composing fed Clive's soul, and he spent five years composing "Can You Spell Cat?", a father's story of his daughter's journey into the confusing and sometimes tragic world of mental disorders. Clive will be remembered for his creativity, music making, wood working, and boat building, his sense of humour, playfulness, compassion, and warmth, his humility, simple living, and his ability to reinvent himself. He is sorely missed by his friends and family, both in Canada and in the UK. We will gather to remember Clive on March 14, 2026 at 2:00pm at the Victoria City Rowing Club, where Clive and his work were treasured, 5100 Pat Bay Hwy. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Mental Health Association.
