Connie Shaw Obituary

SHAW, Connie
May 24, 1928 - February 06, 2026
Connie was born and raised in the coal mining village of Chopwell, England where her family owned and operated the grocery store. Connie played the organ for her church and took teacher training at Leeds College. She married Bryan (deceased 1987) and they emigrated to Canada in 1955. Connie taught grade one for many years in Victoria and was often recognized by former students. After starting a family Connie joined the Y where she found a community that ignited her passion for fitness. Connie completed many marathons and triathlons. The hours of training provided a focus and friendships that sustained her after the death of her husband. In 1996 Connie became a "Granny" and spent many hours reading, singing and encouraging her grandson's interests. There were countless trips to the beach to construct dams, under his direction.
Connie is survived by her sister (Patricia Mason), daughters Chrissy and Jill (Gregg), her grandson Sean (Ashley) and extended family in Canada and the UK.
The family would like to thank Connie's long time friend, Pauline Stynes, and all the caring staff at Age Care James Bay who made her feel valued in the last year of her life.

I knew Connie from my days at the "Y" in Victoria - having met her around the year 1987. She was an outstanding athlete and mentor! I thought she was awesome!

Jill and all the family, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was amazing. I worked close to where she lived and often on my break at work I did a quick loop on a portion of the Lochside trail. It was always a pleasant surprise to bump into Connie and have a conversation. Brenda Beazley Day

I hope she passed without alot of pain Jill. I have a hilarious story of stuffing lima beans in my pocket and Chrissie told on me. Your mom made me take them out of my jeans pocket. Can't remember if she made me eat them but I hate lima beans to this day. I hope you are doing as well.as possible. Thank you for the friendship

I have so many warm memories of Connie that it´s hard to pick one - from my high school days listening to Mott the Hoople endlessly with Jill at their house on Amity which I sure drove Connie nuts to trying to keep up with her Energizing Bunny-like outlook on life. She was an incredible role model for everyone. Condolences to her family and loved ones.

So sad to hear about Connie. I had seen her walking on Lochside last year, and she looked as fit as ever. I stopped and chatted awhile. A life well lived.
