Constance Tooby Obituary

Tooby, Constance Dorothy (Connie)
September 23,1928 - November 28, 2025
Connie passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family.
She was predeceased by her loving parents, Harold and Winifred Henson and her brothers Harold, Bob,Ted and sister Pat and her husband Howard who passed away in 2011. She is survived by her son Dave (Heather) and daughter Janice (Don), her 3 grandchildren, Ryan (Emma), Kim (Rashmi) and Ben (Gillian) and two great-grandchildren Madison and Annabelle and numerous nieces and nephews.
Connie grew up in Victoria. She was the youngest of 5 siblings and she treasured many fond memories of her time growing up on Shakespeare Street with her loving family.
After meeting at the young age of 16, Howard and Connie were happily married for 62 years. They moved from downtown to Cordova Bay because she wanted to raise their family in the country. They eventually built their own home where she has continued to live for 63 years.
She spent her career working as a bookkeeper and sales person starting at Little and Taylor Jewellers which became Grassies and finished by working at Sydney Reynolds, where she formed fast friendships with all the staff.
Though they enjoyed spending time near home, Howard and Connie looked forward to their yearly trips to Palm Springs to enjoy the sun and watch the tennis.
Her main focus was always her family and she supported them through their various endeavours, be it taking them to practices and lessons, cheering them on, or sewing those wonderful costumes for her daughters' dance studio.
Mom was an accomplished sewer, knitter and crocheter. She participated with the Royal Oak Women's institute to make craft projects to support local charities, and made blankets for the hospital neonatal unit. She enjoyed dancing, playing tennis and spent a lot of time in her later years keeping up with friends and family by email, reading, doing puzzles and baking our favourite cookies.
She maintained her great sense of humour and genuine caring attitude until the end, not complaining but rather looking forward to treasured time with family. She loved us all and was well loved in return.
The family would like to thank her kind-hearted caregiver Jazzie Ting as well as Dr. Ted Rosenberg and his very caring staff.
Private family arrangements have been made for Connie. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.

Sending love and heartfelt sympathy to all the family. I will miss my good friend and neighbour of 65 years. The days of cups of tea visits, became once in a while phone visits as we could not walk up the hill any longer. We chatted and always promised each other we would stay on the HILL as long as we could for each other. I miss my dear friend already, but the joy she is now sharing with Howard...warms my heart. Love to you all. Clarice Stewart

As grandson of Jim Little, founder of Little and Taylor Jewelers, I was often early at the store on Douglas Street cleaning glass display cases for the day´s activities. Fortunately, Connie, the bright light at Little and Taylor, not only showed me the best way to clean glass but also how to properly knot and tie a string of natural pearls to wear around a customer´s neck! Interesting the things one remembers! Connie will always be in my memory, again when L&T was honoured in 1947 to provide a silver tea service to Princess Elizabeth and Lieut. Philip Mountbatten with a wedding gift from the government and the people of BC, as shown in the accompanying photo of Connie.
