For many years we have come to know, love and appreciate Cees with his annual visit to the Denman Island Seven Aside Soccer Showdown. Each summer Cees came to officiate the annual 7-aside soccer tournament and gladly volunteered his time.
We were all very saddened and shocked to learn about Cees’ passing. He was a sincere, sweet and kind-hearted man.
Each summer he would venture our way for the weekend, allowing us to learn more about him and share many laughs.
I will always remember his great smile and love of food.
Whenever we were not at the soccer field we spent a lot of time visiting with friends common to the event and eating. He was all smiles after a long day, a couple of drinks and seeing the feast that was prepared. In fact, each and every time I reach for Sambal Oelek I think of Cees as he was famous for his love of adding hot and spicey to any and all dishes.
When I mentioned his passing to our soccer friends in Port Angeles who have met and enjoyed a lot of time with Cees through the years in and around the tournament they all expressed a sincere regret and common "how sad, he was such a wonderful person."
Peter Marshall who is a local Denman Resident that has helped with the tournament and known Cees for years was stunned and also deeply saddened.
Cees made a great impact through the years up this way and we all feel very special to have shared the times that we have with him in and around the beautiful game.
He was a wonderful person, always willing to help, share a laugh and warm our circle with his legendary smile and big heart.

Cees was such a kind and generous person. A great guy to work with and a true gentleman. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Debbie and her family. I knew Cees in the very early years of their relationship. It was apparent then that their love for each other was one to be admired and understood as a true love. Cees was a kind man with a broad and infectious smile. His generousity of spirit was enjoyed by those who had the privilege of enjoying his company. I am deeply sorry for your loss. His memory is carried in the hearts of so many. My thoughts are with you. I am so very sorry you have to go through this.
