BENTY, Dan Passed away suddenly but peacefully at the Cowichan District Hospital on March 1, 2005. Born April 29, 1938 in Nipawin, Saskatchewan. Lovingly remembered by his wife Joan, children Russell (Julia), Raymond (Lori) and Mahalia; grandchildren Kristin, Colby and Riley; sisters Lorraine and Elaine; brothers Murray, Arnold and Herb. Dan moved to Duncan from Love, Saskatchewan in 1953. He worked at the Youbou Mill, Cowichan Creamery and then for C.W. Wall Construction. In 1960, Dan married Joan and in 1963 moved to Port Renfrew and lived there for 25 years. He had his Industrial First Aid, was a cubmaster then later a Scout Master and always had children around him wherever he went. In 1988, he built a home in Duncan and became a Big Brother. He taught Sunday School for many years and during this time he and Joan took custody of Mahalia. They were buddies, Dan and Mahalia. Dan had retired 3 years ago and since then had been busy on the property committee at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and many other projects. He loved his Lord Jesus, his family, friends and his work. He had told his sister Lorraine that he wanted to die with his boots on and a measuring tape in his hand and that is how it happened. Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 531 Herbert Street, Duncan, BC with a tea to follow in the Church Hall. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial remembrances in Dan's name may be made to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Cowichan Valley, 27 127 Ingram Street, Duncan, BC V9L 1N8.
