Darrell BURLEY Obituary

Darrell passed away peacefully on the morning of January 3, 2024 in Chilliwack, just days short of his 91st birthday. Born in Victoria, Darrell spent his early years growing up in Oak Bay with his beloved sister Bernice. He enjoyed his days of soccer and umpiring baseball and his time at Oak Bay High with friends like Nelson, who he stayed in touch with over the years. Darrell's working life involved a move to Vancouver where he spent his career with Gulf Oil and Petrocan, serving clients in mining, forestry and fishing all around BC. He was proud of the service he gave, and the relationships he made throughout the province. A lifelong member of the Freemasons, he was Past Master of the Richmond Lodge in the 70's and continued with Lodge even after moving to the Fraser Valley. He met his second wife Beryl (Billie) and they were married in 1981. They spent 40 years together until her passing in 2021. They were devoted to each other, went everywhere together and celebrated life with cruises and road trips to Nevada. Darrell's kindness was always evident, a great neighbour willing to step up, or lend a helping hand, as he did for his family. He loved to spend time in the garden and was especially proud of his lush green lawn. Although Darrell never had children, he enjoyed kibitzing with his nephews and niece as well as his two sons by marriage and their children. Darrell was a meat and potatoes kind of guy - great appetite but a very limited repertoire. He was a man who thought of others and carried himself with grace and humility. Our family would like to thank Dr. MacKenzie for the years of excellent and compassionate care he provided for Darrell and Billie, as well as the staff of the Waverly and Heritage Village who helped to make Darrell's last years with dementia a little easier.
