David Carlson Obituary

CARLSON, David Emmet
October 8, 1949 - December 24, 2025
(76 years)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave on Christmas Eve after a short courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.
Survived by his loving wife, Susan, of 55 years, six children: David, Steven (Lisa), Michael (Ashley), Katherine (Steven Duifhuis), Erin (Jonathan Campbell) and Matthew (Elyse); ten grandchildren: Devon (Jake), Tyler (Krystyna), Brandon (Ava), Emily (Tanner), Kiara, Ronan, Taliah, Kate, Lachlan and Marley. He is also survived by his brother, Brian (Loon) Carlson; sister, Brenda (Currie Ellis); sister-in-law, Janet (Kevin Richardson) as well as by many nieces and nephews. Dave loved and cherished his family and was very proud of their accomplishments. He will be sadly missed by all of them, he was always there to help them with whatever they needed.
Dave was born in Burns Lake, and raised in Prince Rupert. He moved to Duncan with his family in 1965, where he met and married Susan Patterson in 1970. They settled in Cobble Hill, and lived on the same property for 55 years and raised their family. Dave co-owned and managed the maintenance in Silver Park Mobile Home park for over 40 years, he started Carlson Auto Repair in 1974, which is still operating today and Cobble Hill Towing which he sold to his son Steven and grandsons, Tyler and Brandon Carlson, earlier this year. Dave loved camping and road trips with his family. They included trips to Drumheller, travelling down the Oregon Coast, Yellowstone and extensively touring BC, just to name a few. One special road trip was a train ride across the USA to pick up a tow truck he purchased in North Carolina, and driving it back home to BC and stopping to see the sights along the way. He especially loved his second home in Rock Creek, which he built with the help of his family and friends and created many special memories.
We would like to give special thanks to the CDH emergency, general and oncology wards, also thanks to the staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, the Hospital at Home Nurses and finally to the palliative care nurses that allowed Dave to pass peacefully at home in the presence of his family. No service as per request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.

I am incredibly saddened by Dave´s passing. To his family, I am so deeply sorry for your loss.
Dave was one of the guys - an incredible friend, a mentor, a father figure, and someone I deeply admired. He was a steady presence and a guiding voice, someone I truly looked up to. His generosity of spirit and strength of character made him someone I trusted and respected without hesitation. His mentorship shaped my life in ways that will continue long after his passing.
As I reflect on knowing Dave, his absence is deeply felt, but his impact will never fade. He will always be remembered for his kindness and wisdom.
I will always smile when I think of the small things that made Dave, Dave- his absolute dedication to keeping the driveway spotless with a leaf blower, his incredible sense and passion for fashion, and his commitment to buying Canadian-made products. His passion for politics, especially his spirited commentary on the NDP, was legendary. Some of the best moments were spent over coffee with Dave and Sue, enjoying his surprisingly refined barista skills, good laughs, and the kind of easy, meaningful conversations that made you feel right at home.
Dave´s presence made life richer, and he will be deeply missed - not only by me, but by everyone whose life he touched.
