David Davies Obituary

David died peacefully on August 26th at the age of 97. He is survived by his five children, nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

David was born in Melbourne, Australia and grew up in the UK. He was proud of his Welsh lineage, centred in Denbighshire, North Wales. He served for three years in the British Army, retiring as a lieutenant in the Welch Regiment. After two years graduate training in light engineering, he worked in human relations for seven years. David settled in Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and started a young family with 3 children. (Richard, Gareth & Jill). After a failed marriage, David emigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1963. Through mutual friends, David was introduced to his second wife Jan (Elizabeth Janet) Kitton, and in 1965 they were married. They went on to have two children, (Susan & Trevor) and seven years later they relocated to Kamloops BC. Jan died in June of 2018. A year before Jan's passing, they had moved to Victoria BC to be closer to their children. For the past eight years David enjoyed living in his retirement home, The Victorian, on Feltham Rd. David's working years in Canada were in the laundry and dry cleaning business. His favourite pastimes were: gardening, hiking, canoeing and curling. He enjoyed being president of the Kamloops Rowing Club for 10 years & was very touched when they named a rowing shell after him. David was very much involved in research and writing about the history of railway development in British Columbia. His collection is housed in the archives of the University of Northern BC in Prince George, and thanks to their efforts, can now be accessed on the internet.
