David Ellis Obituary

ELLIS, David John Alexander March 25, 1954 - September 6, 2021 On September 6, 2021 David Ellis passed away at Victoria General Hospital surrounded by family and friends. We would like to thank the staff and medical team of the VGH 4th floor South unit for their support and care. Dave was born and raised in Victoria. He spent a great deal of time at Shawnigan Lake at the family property he loved so dearly. Dave attended Brentwood College and later Camosun College. He went on to a wide range of jobs in the Victoria area throughout his life. He loved working, and always developed strong and lasting relationships with his coworkers. Dave was an avid sports fan as both player and spectator. In his earlier years he played baseball, rugby, field hockey, football and then lawn bowling. In addition to sports, Dave loved his daily newspaper. He followed sports, business, and politics closely, but he especially loved the crosswords. Dave was an avid walker and for many years had dogs which he adored. Dave was a loving husband and devoted father who was dedicated to his family and friends. Dave leaves behind a heartbroken wife Catherine, his son Jeremy, his sisters Debbie (Michael), Cathy and Barb (Doug) as well as a large extended family. He was predeceased by his sister Pat and his mother Shirley in 2021. Dave was a kind, humble, and caring man who loved nature and touched those that knew him with his gentle decency. He will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held in 2022 for family and friends at his beloved Shawnigan Lake. No flowers please, but donations to the Canadian Liver Foundation or the SPCA would be greatly appreciated.

I will always remember my brother Dave and our life growing up at Shawnigan and in Victoria. It only seems like yesterday where did the time go. I added a photo here but not sure where it went but this is how I will always remember Dave walking down to the dock. Many Thanks to his wife Catherine for taking such good care of him he was very lucky to have found you, you were his angel. I know you Pat and Mum are together watching down on us. We will miss you all.

I was so sad to read of Dave’s passing. My condolences to Catherine, Debbie, Cathy, Barb and Jeremy at this very difficult time. Dave truly was such a kind and caring gentleman with a lovely demeanour. I haven’t seen Dave in several years but we would occasionally bump into each other and have lovely chats, and catch up. Such fond memories as teenagers at Shawnigan, and Dave was sure a great slalom skier. He was such a good guy and will be very missed. It was a pleasure to know you Dave, RIP
