David GASKELL Obituary

GASKELL, David Edward Henry May 24th, 1956 - November 11th, 2012 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dave who left us too soon. He leaves behind his loving wife of 17 years Leslie, of whom he adored. Survived by his mother Phyllis Gaskell, his brother Brian, son Chad, stepson Brandan, in-laws Diane and Carl, as well as many other friends and relatives. Predeceased by his Grandfather Phillips, father Edward and best friend Mike Dobson. Dave loved his dogs, the outdoors, and liked to hunt and fish, over the years Dave took great pleasure in his yard and gardening. Dave's welding career took him to many places around the world but he loved Lake Cowichan the best. We will always cherish the memories you made with us. We will love you and miss you always. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Nov 18, 1pm at the Lake Cowichan Legion Branch 210, 15 North Shore. All are welcome to attend. Thinking of you and your family Leslie.... Dave had a good heart and was a kind man with a peaceful demeanour. We are still in disbelief of his sudden passing. Todd enjoyed sharing fishing stories with Dave and will reflect on their trip to Renfrew with a smile always. xo

I was deeply saddened to hear of Dave's passing. Growing up Dave often frequented our home as he was my brother Mike's best friend. I too am grateful for the friendship he shared with my brother, and the kind influence he had with our family. He was indeed a good man, and will be greatly missed. I am so very sorry to the family and friends for your tremendous loss. My heart and prayers are with you. Sue Dobson Shoub.

Dave and I met at welding school. Although our time together there was brief, it was fun and has left me with good memories. Although it's always sad to see someone you are close to go before there time, Dave was the type of person who would look upon it as a new chapter to write. I will not be able to visit the Lake on his day but I will raise a toast in his honor.

Dear Phyllis, Brian, Leslie, Chad, Family & Friends: We are so devastated to hear of David's passing. The years go but so quickly, and the 'we must catch up soon' does not happen. Our family, & especially Simon & Dominic, have very many happy memories of times spent with David & Brian after we discovered we were related on Ted's side at a chance meeting at UVic in 1969. I am out of the country at this time, but send my deepest condolences & regret that I can't be with you on Sunday. David certainly enjoyed his life & enriched ours with his love of it.
