David Newell Obituary

NEWELL, David Raynor We are so sad to announce the sudden passing of our Dad and Grandpa, Raynor Newell. He will be greatly missed by Linda, his wife of 60 years, daughter Chickie Martin (Dave), sons Pete (Dona) and Graham (Joanna). He also leaves behind his grandchildren Myles and Brad Juzkow, Bryan, Mitchell, Coral, Jesse, Taylor, Cassie and Scott Newell. He is survived by his sisters Valerie Bjork, Ger Wallace, Lynn Balding and numerous other family members. Raynor was born and raised on Vancouver Island. In 1965 he and Linda moved to Squamish where they started a business and raised their children. This was his first year of retirement in which he enjoyed spending time with his family and providing doggie daycare for his four legged pal, Louie. We will miss his love, generosity and sense of humor that have left us with many happy memories. We would like to extend our thanks for all of the support shown by family and friends. We understand that Ray was a loved and well respected man but as requested there will be no service. Special thanks to the Squamish first responders for their care and compassion. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at VGH for their tireless efforts.

Yesterday evening while speaking with Graham I learned of Ray’s passing.I felt like I was in shock. This news saddened me deeply.
I met Ray in 1993 after buying a home in Brakendale that needed some ductwork to hook up an old furnace so naturally I found myself knocking on the door of Squamish heating and was quickly greeted by an extremely pleasant and humorous man. He invited me in and gave me a listen even though he didn’t know me from Adam.He quickly figured out by my accident that I was a Newfoundlander so naturally there was a few beers involved.Soon after Ray came to my house in Brackendale and did some measuring. A few days later I came home to several pieces of ductwork, hangers, couplers and takeoffs as he figured I was a do it your selfer. I got my furnace going and a few years after that needed a new one installed for a basement suite that I had put in and again Squamish heating jumped to my request. Ray always made me feel like I was a good friend and worthy of his undivided attention he had that special gift. I will always hold the Newell family close to my heart because of that man and I will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace and may your family be comforted by how fondly he will be remembered by the countless amounts of people like me that he helped in his life time.I’ll never forget him as long as I live.I sincerely feel like I lost a dear friend.
