David Titterton Obituary

TITTERTON, David George passed away on March 16, 2021 in Cobble Hill, BC with his wife Swannie and only child Paul by his side.

He was born on December 4, 1940 in Stoke-on-Trent, England, emigrating to Victoria, BC with his family in 1947. David graduated from Mt. Doug High School in 1958.

David met his future wife Svannhild (Swannie) Larsen while on a blind date to see the movie Lawrence of Arabia at the Royal Theatre. After articling as an accountant at Ismay, Boiston and Dunn, David soon found himself entering into his lifetime career in management. David's first job was at the YM/YWCA, the connection there led to the University of Victoria where he spent 13 years and developed many lifelong friendships and prepared him for his next position as the General Manager of the Royal and MacPherson theatres for 6 years. He and his family had many great memories and stories of entertaining the various performers that played the theatres over the years. His next position was as General Manager of the relatively new Victoria Conference Centre. David very much enjoyed his colleagues at the VCC and the interesting travelling he was able to do while promoting Victoria as a destination. David made many lifelong friendships in his working career and socially. He had many great hobbies over his life such as sailing, restoring old British cars and motorcycles, flying model airplanes, and of course riding both on and off road motorcycles. David and his family were very involved with the Victoria Motorcycle Club where every Thanksgiving was spent preparing for, riding or marshalling the Terra Nova Enduro event. So many wonderful memories and friendships came from this time at the VMC. David was a long time member of the Union Club of Victoria, Oak Bay Rotary, Skal International and Tourism Victoria.

David and his wife Swannie both retired early from their careers and spent the next stage of their life together doing the things they loved such as travelling, gardening, hosting dinner parties and most importantly spending time with their grandchildren Larsen and Lily. David was a wonderful host and had the gift of making whomever he was speaking to feel truly welcome and heard.

David is survived by his wife Swannie, son Paul (Robyne), grandchildren Larsen and Lily, brother Geoff (Peggy), nephews Brian, Mark, James, nieces Renee and Shannon, cousins Graham, Mike and Judy. Predeceased by brother Brian (Colette).

A service will be held when gatherings are once again safe to do so.
