Dawn Cropp Obituary

CROPP, Dawn S. October 14, 1917 August 13, 2011 Dawn passed peacefully with her daughter at her side. Predeceased by her husband James Ernest, grandson Andrew, and sisters Mildred and Priscilla. She is survived by her children Douglas (Marge), Jim (Christine), Rick and Catheryn (Len); grandchildren Tammy, Valerie, Jacqueline, Michael, Brendan and Trevor; great-granddaughter, Christin; brother Frank (Winn) and sister Edith (Art). Dawn grew up in Winnipeg and moved to Victoria in 1947 to marry Ernie. For over thirty years, they provided a home for many children. They were named Foster Parents of the Year in 1977 in recognition of their service to children and the community. Dawn accepted everyone for who they were, found the positive in others and always offered her support. Over the years, she spent countless hours supporting her community. She worked with others to start a local food bank, was active in local politics, and volunteered at the Priory and Queen Alexandria Solarium to name a few. She was also a lifetime member of the Women's Institute and a longstanding member of Legion Branch #91 Ladies Auxiliary. Dawn was very special to many people and will be missed. The family would like to thank the staff at the Priory for their respectful and compassionate care. At Dawn's request, there will be no service. If desired, donations may be made to a local charity of your choice in her memory. 634499

Dawn was a great supporter of any organization she belonged to, and I especially appreciated working with her on the Esquimalt Juan de Fuca NDP Executive over the years.

I am saddened by Aunt Dawn's passing. She was an outstanding person. She was a large part of our lives in the past. She was a true friend to my mum Donally.
Where ever she is, it is a better place because of her.

Dawn and I served together on the federal NDP Esquimalt Juan de Fuca executive for several years. And she worked door to door with me in the 2000 campaign. I'm deeply saddened today to hear of her death. Her sense of justice, combined with a warm, kind personality, will be greatly missed by her many New Democratic friends.

I met Dawn at a W.I. meeting a few years ago. She impressed me deeply at that time with her gentle voice and her ready acceptance of those of us who were new to her..but she accepted as old friends. Dawn left behind a legacy...Do unto others as you would have done to you. She practiced this.
Keep smiling Dawn....I think your face knows no other expression.
