Troy, Dad was very fond of you. He always told me what a great guy you were and how he really enjoyed working with you. I'm sorry you didn't know until now. There will be a ride in his honor on May 3rd. Details can be found at www.sphf.ca (in case you weren't aware already).
Thanks for your kind words

So very sad to hear this news. I used to make a point of visiting Denis in the bike store whenever I came back to Sidney to visit my parents. Really just to say hello and share a few memories from high school and biking. Denis was always a great help keeping me in bicycle gear, I still covet a set of Araya rims he made for me many years ago. Of course, I'd missed those visits in the last few years but I still would think of Denis whenever I was visiting and wonder how he was doing. Now that he has passed, I know that I will think of him when I'm visiting in Sidney and I will value those memories all the more.

Denis gave so much to cyling and I will always remember his warm hospitality from the old Russ Hayes store in Sidney. Hanging around the heater in the back shooting the breeze. We will all miss you Denis.

It's obvious that Denis was a good man and loved by many, is there anything else that we can ask at the end of the day? I knew him from way back when, we were kids, his family lived upstairs from mine. We walked to elemantary school every day, we carved our initials in some cement in a new sidewalk. I remember the 2 of us sprinkling baby powder on the floor of the bedroom that i shared with my 2 sisters, so we could skate indoors. My fondest memory is that he and I went to my high school prom together. Denis has been and will continue to be missed by those close to him. Thanks for the memories Denis. My sympathies to the family.

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I heard the news of Denis' death. I felt so honored having the time I had with him last February. I think he died in peace knowing that he had the love and devotion of Shelly, two amazing parents as well as his entire family. Please accept my deepest condolences and know that Denis will continue to be with us in the incredible memories that he left us with.

“Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince;
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ”

Celebrating a life we did not know too well but what we knew was wonderful. He showed his love for all of his family and made us glad that we were joined as in laws. May your family feel your spirit with them always and picture you riding through a spiritual adventure.

"Before we ask for our needs,
we take stock of what we have.
Before anything we may pray for,
we give thanks:
that we can ride,
that the day is ours to ride,
that our family, friends and neighbors can join us,
Whatever we may ask for, let us first be mindful of what we have.
What we have can be taken away.
If we should ask, let us ask for what cannot be bought or sold:
appreciation of nature's beauty
deep breaths of fresh air
clearing our mind
a gentle tread upon our path on earth.
These are the blessings we ask."
