Denise McColl Obituary

McCOLL, Denise Henriette (née du Gardien) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Denise Henriette McColl (née du Gardien). Mom passed away peacefully on March 17, 2022 with her family by her side. Denise was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela on July 26, 1931. She had a wonderful athletic childhood in Venezuela's golden period, which is where she met her husband, J Fraser McColl. She led a full life in many parts of the world before choosing Victoria, BC as an ideal place to finish raising her three children. Despite her advanced age, she led an active social life, playing tennis into her mid 80's against much younger opponents and playing competitive duplicate bridge up until a week before her passing. Mom had a zest for life, loving to sing in Spanish, dance at any opportunity and jump in to the lake at Shawnigan on a warm summer's day with her grandchildren. Denise was predeceased by her husband, J Fraser McColl, her father, Arthur du Gardien, her mother, Yvonne du Gardien (née Lippens), sister, Margot Matson, brother, Artie du Gardien. Denise is survived by her 3 children: Fraser McColl (Tracy), Yvonne McColl (Lou), Debbie Noble (Marke), 9 grandchildren: Alistair (Maria), Cameron, Kathleen (Brendan), Fraser, Alexandra (Julian), Katie, Logan, Lochlan and Matthew and 2 great-grandchildren: Ryan and Alexander. Many thanks to her home care givers, Hannah Tiruenh and Randi Vasseur and the wonderful nursing staff at Jubilee Hospital. She will be forever missed and always loved. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 3rd at 2 pm at the Wedgewood Estates Clubhouse, 2829 Arbutus Road.

Sending my sincerest condolences to your entire family. I only knew Denise for a short time as I cared for her as her Nurse in her home before she was transferred back to the hospital. She touched my life in that short time frame. I had lovely conversations with her and her daughter Debbie. May she rest in peace with her husband now.

I am so sorry to read of Denise's passing. I remember her from the days of your father and her owning the Victoria Cougars hockey team. They were a wonderful couple and always so friendly and caring. I am sure Fraser was waiting for her in Heaven. May they Rest in Peace, together again

We will miss the 6:00 am squeaking of Denise´s walker telling us she was ok, up and about for another day. A wonderful lady and we will sorely miss her neighbourly visits. Regret we will not be able to attend her memorial celebration of a life well lived.
