I am very sorry to hear of the loss of Dennis. My deepest sympathy to his family. I knew Dennis through Colwood and Goldstream Lodge. I very much respected him with his knowledge of accounting and his thoughts on many subjects. Dennis will be missed by many.

Dennis was a gentleman and a scholar of the highest order. He was also a very humble man. Dennis held many patents for his various inventions that were used to advance polar exploration, he almost never spoke of them. He was fully versed in the history of the Cowichan valley as his family were early pioneers. He was also very knowledgeable about the history of the Songhees people. Dennis was curious about everything. He would chuckle when he would recount the story of him rowing a small wooden boat on the ocean, in a full gale! He was on his way to see Sue in their early courting days.. Dennis was blessed to have the friendship and support of his very good friend, Joan. They met many years after Sue passed and became good friends and close supports as illness began to slow Dennis down. So many stories, Dennis, thank you for sharing them. Until we meet again. We´ll bloom daffodils in your honour.

Dennis was the epitome of a gentleman. He was very involved in the Masonic community and went to great pains to develop a compact disc of music for lodges that didn't have a musician to play for the various ceremonies. He was a wonderful man to work with on that project. As a Marriage Commissioner I had the pleasure of marrying his son to his lovely wife. I had the sad pleasure of officiating at Dennis' wife's memorial service. We were sorry when he moved to Duncan as we weren't able to see him as often. Dennis was a strong supporter of the Masonic fraternity and his always graceful presence will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to his family.
