PRAYERS AND BLESSINGS
Joan Kennedy

I'm sorry I couldn't come to the service for her. My condolences to her family. I sometimes think of her when I go by the waterfall wall on the Parc Building. Maybe the park right next to it could be named after her.

My deepest condolences to Diane's family and friends.
I consider myself among the latter, though we had lost touch. I found out about her passing (thank you, Pam) at an art opening on the night of the Harvest Moon.
What a perfect time and place to have Diane and the fullness of her life's days and her powerful being revived in my mind.
Diane, always hungry to learn more, went back to university as a mature student in the early 1990s. A fresh-baked PhD, I was just starting my teaching career in the art history department at UVic. Diane took many of my courses the first two years I taught, and we became close. She was always supportive and enthusiastic, and I came to consider her one of a small group of 'angels' who helped me make the transition to working a grueling eighty or more hours a week, many of them before an 'audience'.
Diane always amazed me with her knowledge, experience and analysis. She also helped introduce me - A Norwegian-Australian-American - to Canada, BC, Victoria, First Nations issues, the local version of the Arts and Crafts movement, and CBC radio. We bonded over Norwegian foods and sayings she had known earlier in her life, laughing, drinking coffee, talking of journeys to old and sacred sites, and hanging out with her dog Charlie.
I had been thinking of her over the last few weeks, wanting to reconnect with her. The old ways of friendship, still practiced in many parts of the world, teach that friendship never tarnishes or dies. Having been brought up in some of these old ways, in Norway and in Asia, I feel this way. And reconnection with Diane happened, in this unexpected way, in the here and now.
Thank you, Diane, for your fierce and incisive commitment to everything you believed in and fought for. You were a warrior and the world is a better place for your presence. Journey on, free of all worldly struggles, on waves of peace and love.
See you again, in Soul Space.
Love and Klem ('hug', in Norwegian),
Astri

Although I didn't know Diane well, she was a woman you noticed, respected and sought out when the opportunity arose. A terrifically honest, straightforward, funny, beautiful woman - I'm pleased to have had the moments with her that I did.

Although not here with us, Diane will live on in memory. She developed a lifelong love of sailing and an appreciation of yacht design as a result of our friendship which began in the early 1960's and she never lost her passion for boats and the sea.
Diane was a wonderful human being and a true friend. We will miss her laughter and her fine sense of humour.
