I had the pleasure of being part of the Innis family for years. Dixie was a gentle soul, so kind to all.....the world could use more people like Dixie .

I remember Dixie Lee from the Calgary Safety Roundup. I never met her but I never forgot her. She was a few years older than me, I remember that. I was impressed by her and the others who were performing 'ON TV!'
As teenagers, my friends and I all liked the movie Billy Jack. While we were Billy Jack kicking at each other we were well aware that it was Dixie singing the theme song, One Tin Soldier.
Today my wife Ann and I were looking her up on the internet to see what she was doing now; I was taken aback to see her obituary.
I wish I could have met you Dixie. I hope we will meet you on the other side of the river. God bless you. Amen

About 10 years ago I met Dixie at a summer house party. I found her stories so fascinating that I've never forgotten her. My condolences, she lived an interesting life.

I was lucky enough to be best friends with Dixie´s older sister, Wendy, from 6th grade on. I must have spent half my childhood with the Stone family. Wendy & I were inseparable and Dixie was inevitably hanging around about three feet away!
After I left Calgary and eventually ended up in Dallas, I would only see Wendy and Dixie occasionally when I was up to visit family. But eventually, my entire family moved out to BC and it didn´t take too long before we caught up with Dixie who had landed in Victoria.
Ever since then, and especially after I retired and could visit Vancouver Island for weeks & months on end, did I really bond with Dixie deeply and grew to know her as the sweet and fun-loving person she was. She was probably the best caregiver Victoria ever had, being so mindful of the people she was assigned and knowing and catering to their individual needs. She was generous to a fault, always bringing little gifts or special foods to her clients and sharing in their personal stories.
She became the best friend ever, never squelching from telling you how the cow ate the cabbage. She was one of the real ones, having that rare and wonderful quality of sticking to her guns and knowing who she was. What you saw was what you got! And she was contented.
I will miss her dearly and remember with love.

While the vast majority of people knew Dixie Lee Stone as the singer with the Original Caste, I can remember while living in Calgary, when my sister came home from her first softball practice.
She told us all about her new softball coach - Dixie Lee Stone -- and how wonderful she was with all the players. My sister wasn't the most athletic girl in the world but she sure loved the way Dixie Lee treated her. It would be a few years before Dixie Lee's success in music but we also came to know her mother, who was in charge of the Glendale Meadows community hall. And I clearly remember how a bunch of us participated in a phone-in vote for best new artist, using the community hall phone because we wanted Mrs. Stone's daughter to win. I don't know if DIxie Lee won or not that night but I do know that she made a big impact on a bunch of little kids by being such a nice person.
When her singing career took off we were all over the moon to be able to say that we knew her & her mother.
RIP Dixie Lee Stone

Dixie and I met in high school in Calgary. Life took us our separate ways but we were fortunate enough to reconnect some years ago in Victoria. Dixie was a kind, gentle person with a wonderful smile, and she will be missed by many. My sincere condolences to her family.

This is an interview with the Original Caste in 1974. Most of it is with Bruce Innes of the band, but there is also some time with Dixie Lee Innes (Stone).

This is a link to video footage of the Calgary Safety Roundup. Dixie was a member of this group as a child/teen and there is footage of her. A 20 minute watch and well worth it. If you can't access this video, search for Calgary Safety Roundup.

Dixie Stone was a good friend to me for the past several years. We supported each other in complementary ways, and had many laughs together. I was glad to be there for her in the last few months of her life. She was gracious about her illness, and still good humored. I will remember her fondly and miss her dearly.

I am grateful I got to know Dixie when I lived in Victoria. Her manner was sunny and calm, kind and gentle. I enjoyed our chats, and her easy laughter. She was a creative spirit and story teller with great musical gifts. Dixie could instantly put one at ease. Thanks for that.
Condolences to friends and family.
