Domenico Melizza Obituary

MELIZZA, Domenico January 19, 1930 - January 3, 2016 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Domenico Fedele Melizza. Remaining to cherish Domenico's memory are his wife Rosa and children Vittoria, Tony (Katy), Gabriele, Roberto, Linda (Jason); and grandchildren Sara, Jayden, Jareden; and close family friends Joyce, Dorothy and Pat. Born in Mozzagrogna, di Chieti, Italy, he came to Winnipeg in 1955 with his wife to join their relatives. Began work in a shoe factory before starting a career as a union labourer specializing in terrazzo flooring and tile setting. In 1970, he moved his family to Victoria, BC and worked for City of Victoria at Beacon Hill Park and Parliament buildings doing tile restoration work. Dad's favourite hobbies over the years included gardening, wine making and working on his castle (home). He enjoyed hosting lively dinners with family and his many close friends over the decades. Special thanks to staff at VGH and Priory for their compassionate care. Funeral service will take place at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 798 Goldstream Ave, 1:00pm, Thursday, January 14. Sorry to hear of his passing. He was kind and a hard worker and put up with a lot back in the day with a house full of kids and their friends. Homemade wine made from grapes and big family dinners around the table with so many courses are a good memory. Best wishes to you all as you start a new life without him.

I remember many years ago when Domenico worked on the Legislative Building Fountain on the front lawn with my uncle Fred and I met him at that time. May you rest in peace .
