Don Grovestine Obituary

GROVESTINE, Don July 4, 1942 - August 3, 2022 Having bravely and stoically navigated the head winds of cancer, determined to celebrate his 80th birthday just this past month, Don is now sailing the seas of heaven, and enjoying all the seafood he can eat! A true sailor at heart, our warm-hearted yet unflappable "Skipper" Don | Dad | Grampie will be deeply missed by his First-mate of 55-years "Honerz" (Wendy); his Helmsman and Navigator "Guyz" (Steven; and Andrew, with his First-mate Leda), and his young, talented and capable deckhands (Ava, and Max). Not to mention the many Belleville, Toronto, and Victoria Captains & Crews befriended over the years; plus his Maritimer family - siblings Dale (& family) and Eric; Charlotte and the Shelburne, Nova Scotia clan. A special sailors' salute to Dr. Stuart Marshall and the Victoria Hospice staff! A remembrance 'Sailpast' in celebration of Don will be held this coming Wed., August 10, 1400-1600 at the Victoria Delta hotel. The Commodore's salute (with brief ceremony) will start at 1500 sharp! Landlubbers and salty captains & crew alike are all welcome!

Although we never meat in person, we have known each other and worked together on flightsim projects for so many years, which was exciting, enlightening, but most of all fun to do.

I will miss Don as the friendly and reliably soul he was. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Deepest condolences to all of Don's family and friends.

I am but one of many in the flight sim universe who was lucky enough to know Don and have benefited from all the hours of time and energy he devoted to our hobby.

He was a very kind man, endlessly patient and always helpful. The hours he devoted while asking for nothing in return is a mark of his kindness and generosity.

Thank you Don for everything, you will be missed more than you know.
May your skies be forever blue.

My thoughts and prayers are with Don's family and friends at this time.

I had the great privilege of working with him on Flight Simulator software. His contribution made the ordinary special.

I will miss him greatly first as a friend and second as a collaborator in providing tools for the enhancement of the flight sim experience.

I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers will be for you to find support and solace during this most difficult of times.
He has done so much for the Flightsim community over the years and his software adjuncts and different tutorials will indeed live on for many years to come. Don will be sorely missed among us as well.
At some point in the healing process you will likely have questions regarding his disease and treatment. As a physician I gladly make myself available day or night to answer any questions you may have or likely to have at some point in the healing process.

With much sorrow and the hope to see him again.

I often think back to the old days and Fastidious Don's impeccably clean decks putting the rest of us to shame. Great times in the 1000 Islands, the Bay of Quinte and off Victoria. A great guy to have known!
