Donald Beechey Obituary

BEECHEY, Donald Frank Born August 8, 1922 Passed April 7, 2011 Don left behind his loving and caring wife, Mavis, son Michael (Miriam) grandsons Dylan (Jennifer), Robin and great-granddaughter Nala. Born in Evesham, England Donald joined the R.A.F. in 1938 as a boy entrant. During his enrollment he served in Persia, India, Ceylon, South Africa and the Maldives before being attached to the T.R.E. in Malvern, England where he met and married Mavis in 1947. Upon leaving the R.A.F. in 1949, the family came to Canada where they lived in Toronto until 1978 when, due to ill health, they moved to Victoria. Dr. Brownlee operated on Don for quad bipass heart surgery, and thanks to his and Dr. Chan's work Don lived many more years then the 5 years he was given in Toronto. Don also completed a B.A programme he started at York University and finished at UVic graduating in May 1982 at the age of 59. He was a keen lawn bowler and member of the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling club, until health deterioration forced him to quit. During his years in Toronto he was an avid amateur radio operator, specializing in long distance operations. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jennifer Whyte for her care, concern and advocacy during the last period of Don's life. 625765
