Donald McTavish Obituary

McTAVISH, Donald
December 17, 1934 - June 11, 2025

Donald Milton McTavish, affectionately known as "Don" to those who knew and cherished him, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in Victoria, British Columbia, at 90 years old. He was born December 17, 1934, in the Town of Arthur, Ontario. Don left this world having lived a life abundant with purpose, love, and untold adventures. He leaves behind a loving partner, Gloria, who stood by his side for the past 10 years. A beloved partner, father, grandfather, and friend, Don's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of those around him.

In Don's early life he served his country as a proud member of the armed forces, stationed in Germany. This experience instilled in him an enduring sense of discipline and duty, traits that he carried into his professional life. Following his military service, Don embarked on a successful career in automotive repair, where he contributed his talents and wisdom for more than a decade. Much more than just a businessperson, Don was a community pillar who measured success not merely in financial terms but by the relationships he nurtured and the difference he made in the lives of others.

Don cherished his role as the patriarch of the McTavish family. He is survived by his ex-wife Olivia, who is the mother of their three children; Kevin, married to Christine, who brought into the world the joy of grandchildren Liam, Brendan, Reegan, and Rowan; Bradley, married to Irene, with whom he shared the blessings of grandchildren Esme and Ethan; and his daughter Allyson, who enriched his life with grandchildren Kai, Aynslie, and Adrienne. Don instilled in his children the values of self-reliance and honesty, values he held dear to his heart and exemplified in his daily life.

Don's life was filled with the simple joys of cooking, dancing, and immersing himself in the rhythms of his favourite country classic music.

There will be a celebration of life for Don at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 292 (411 Gorge Rd E, Victoria, BC; parking off of Dunedin Street) between 1-5pm on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the local veterans' organizations, reflecting Don's lifelong dedication to helping those in service.

Don was a good neighbour for all of us and we have fond memories of Christmas family parties every year with all the kids taking part and growing up. Those were great years Don! Keep dancing! You were a fun guy! Good memories were made!

Uncle Don was a special guy!

I was able to connect with him while taking care of my Mom (Marion Ireland/McTavish/Mullin). It was during those times that he would provide such positive support. His advice for me was to not get overwhelmed, just be in the moment. Concentrate on being her strength and light.

Memories: Sharp guy who always wore a clean shirt, stood out in a crowd, tall, strong, positive, with a big grin which was his business card & logo in life.

Here´s to you Uncle Don, keep smiling and go in peace.

All our love

Time will ease the pain, but will never erase the memories that I have. Until we dance again together in heaven rest in peace my friend.

I am saddened by the passing of Don. My first knowledge of him was him coming into Save-on-Foods (where I worked).....I am pretty sure, every single day. And then to also see him on the dance floor especially if it was "country".....wonderful! He and I "loved" dancing. He was a good guy!
